{write} five minute friday

Go

I write to celebrate life.
It's Friday night and a whole long week is behind me. It was jammed-packed with opportunities that stem because I write. Speaking, video taping my classroom work, a visit with an author-friend, a plan to launch my new book --  all of these things happened because I write.

But I don't write because of what I get. I write because it makes me more complete. I write to understand the world and people and faith. I write to document and record and remember the ordinary stories. I write to take the small moments and find the big meaning.

I write to make the most of this one little life of mine.

Everything else (the books and the speaking and the connections) are just sweet icing on the cake. The writing, though, it always gives more than it takes.

This summer, I came across a writing challenge hosted by Lisa-Jo Baker that I thought I'd give a try.For more information, check out this link to Five Minute Friday. The nitty-gritty is you write for 5 minutes on a word, then you share your post, and you comment on another. I hope you'll join too.

  2. How cool is it to get a Stenhouse Newslinks e-mail with your book as the top item?! I will tell you: It is definitely reason to CeLeBraTe!

"I write to make the most of this one little life of mine."
This one little life of yours sure is shining on a lot of other little lives.

  3. Let's celebrate! Congratulations on your new book. I would have loved to hear trumpets to announce the arrival of your new book. You weaved the news into a five minute writing. How appropriately the word was chosen. How humbly you responded.
"Writing to celebrate life" - love that line.

  4. Congrats on the new book!

"The writing, though, it always gives more than it takes."

Indeed. For me, it gives peace and a deeper understanding of what is going on around me. I write to share my thoughts, whether it's only with the screen or with others, and to get clarity when it's needed. Writing keeps me sane (most of the time).

  5. What a wonderful way to celebrate your writing life. I can't wait to get the book! I've already made my own little poster with your wise words to remind me that I need to continue writing even when it seems impossible.
