plans change (soLs)

Things didn't really go as planned today.

Cancellations.
Unexpected meetings.
Strange conversations.
Change of plans.

And right now a little girl who is howling in bed because her ear hurts. It came on around 7:12, the same time of night that she always has an ailment. Usually an ice pack makes everything better. Not tonight though. No temperature. A little pain reliever. Warm wash cloth to the ear. Lots and lots and lots of sympathy. And then some more sympathy. Another bellow from above.

Anyone know how to make it go away?

(I wonder if I should begin considering the possibility that I'll need to stay home with a sick little girl tomorrow. Let's hope not.)

  1. Uh-oh. Doesn't sound good, right? Did you try propping her up? Sorry...the mom in me who had 3 kids go through round after round of ear infections when they were little just has to ask. It's a reflex, really...something I just can't help. :)
Hope it goes ok tonight. Will be thinking of you.

  2. I liked the opening 5 lines - leaving it open for us to imagine the possibilities of the stories behind each line.

I hope that your daughter is feeling better.

  3. e-gads! Why does it happen always in the evenings, or the middle of the night? So sorry for the hurt-earaches are not fun. I don't have any big solutions. Tylenol? At least until the doctor in the am. Sorry Ruth!

  4. When I read your post, the first thing I thought of was that quote. “Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the little voice at the end of the day that says I'll try again tomorrow. ” ― Mary Anne Radmacher
I hope tomorrow will be a better day and I hope your daughter is feeling better- earaches are no fun!

  5. If it is not a ruptured ear drum or dramatics, but really an ear infection, I swear by these ear drops from Walgreens. They say they are for swimmer's ear, so they don't seem like the right fit, but they work: Hyland's Earache Drops in the pastel colored box. They are child-safe. It is instant relief, and you can use them repeatedly.

Hang in there! I hope the morning brings good news!

  6. Oh, dear. I am thinking you've had a really rough night, because you weren't there to post Slice 27 at midnight. I hope your little girl is okay. Peace to your whole family. Peace and healing.

  7. My sympathy goes for both of you. Ear-ache is one of the worst pains. I hope that it doesn't get worse. I don't think it hurts to see a doctor if possible.

  8. There is not much worse then an ear ache. I still remember one from when I was about 8. I hope she is better.

  9. I hope you survived this time. Interruptions are not fun in any manner.
