enamored

To inspire with love; captivate

I think this world could use more people being enamored with people. You know, to be completely taken, totally blown away by how remarkable someone is. Simply being enchanted by another person.

Today I was enamored by Jordan and the way he draws people in and makes them smile. He is constantly being complimented on his manners.

Today I was enamored by Stephanie and the way she has learned self-control. She is teaching herself to do the things she doesn't want to do.

Today I was enamored by Hannah and the way she has disciplined herself to read her bible and devotions every single night since January 1.Today she was reading her bible when I came home. "I'm reading early because I don't feel well and want to make sure I get it done." She has an old soul, which enamors me even more.

Today I was enamored by Sam and the way he loves unconditionally again and again, minute to minute and day after day. I wish my love was as unabashed as his.

Today I was enamored by Andy who started a running program tonight because I asked him to run a 5K race with me this summer.

Today I was enamored by Christie who has decided to run an ultra marathon --  100 miles -- this summer. She is becoming stronger each day.

Today I was enamored by a colleague who shared with me his service in the Army, stationed in Europe, helping Vietnam vets decompress.

Today I was enamored by Becca who puts words on the page and makes me a better person.

Today I was enamored by the way Shelley wrote about her parents and sacrifices.

It takes honest love, the unselfish kind, to be enamored by others. Interestingly enough, I've also found, the more enamored I am by someone, the more I want to know them more. This is the kind of love that makes the world a better place. I want to spend my life being enchanted by people and the way they are perfectly and wonderfully made.

  2. Some days it's hard to be enamored with just one . . . and look at you finding all this enamoring! What to slow down life and notice. I just think that is awesome.

  4. Ruth,
Thank you for this beautiful post. I love your post reflection on what needs to happen to live in the space of "being enamored". The breadth of people who enamor you--from family to writers to colleagues speaks about your capacity to invite others into your life. I also love how you used a word to reflect on your day. I will use that idea in my writing and I thank you for that.

  5. I love a "word of the day" Enamored is a great word. I think sometimes I can be enamored by a perfect stranger. It is something we can do that doesn't cost a thing but why are so many people not willing to let themselves be enamored by others. I think to be able to be enamored by someone we have to make ourselves do a lot of listening, noticing, acknowledging and accepting.

  8. Watching some TV tonight, I was thinking about how so many programs focus on just the opposite of goodness. I love your being enamored by the selfless acts of others. You are watching, encouraging, and loving. I find that kind of love and attention to people to be enamoring. Keep going, Ruth!

  11. I love this, and so wish that our world would take the time to not just BE enamored, but to SHARE when they are enamored. So many people just need to HEAR what they contribute, and so often, people go as if they are unnoticed, when really, they were noticed, but nobody took the time to let them know! Thanks for sharing!!

  15. I've been thinking about this since yesterday. It reminds me that I need to let people know when I am enamored with them. And I am totally enamored with your kids after the last few posts. I think they must be kids I would love to have in my class.

  16. Great to see that you are enamored of your family, & to hear why, offering us a little bit of our own reasons to enamor, Ruth. I never have thought of this word for it, but have used the word acknowledge to tell others how much I enjoy who they are, how much they mean to me. Thank you for the new thoughts about this.

  17. I am enamored of you so frequently and how you have such wonderful insight into many small moments in life. You have given me these gifts time and time again whether I'm hearing you present or sitting on a porch with you in Hocking Hills. Thanks for sharing those reflections with us!!

  18. Great word; great post. You're right -- the world needs more 'enamored' souls :). I love that you name what captures you in everyday people; people who are very easy to not be enamored with because they're around day in and day out. That is powerful, soul-enriching stuff :).
