CELEBRATE link-up

I'm glad you are here and hope you will join the CELEBRATE link-up. Here are the guidelines:

Every Saturday share a celebration. It can be anything (or several things). A photo, a page from your writer's notebook, a favorite lesson, a success story, student writing, a recipe, a new book for your classroom library -- just find something to celebrate. It doesn't have to be big, in fact, unlikely celebrations are some of our favorites. Check out these posts for ideas: Deb Day, Pirnelle Ripp, Colby Sharp, Holley Mueller, and my Favorite Bits posts.

Link-up your celebration. You can add a link to your own blog post here in the link-up list. Maybe you don't want to write a blog post, but you'd still like to join the CELEBRATE link-up. Let's use #celebratelu (lu stands for link-up) on Twitter. Another option could be sharing your celebration on the {Discover. Play. Build.} Facebook page.

Browse through the links. You'll find inspiration and good ideas and more ways to celebrate your own piece of the world.

Leave some comments. This is how a community forms. Let others know you've stopped by and celebrate together.

I can't wait for the connections that are just waiting for us. I'm hoping that by the end of the school year classrooms will be celebrating together because of the connections formed in the CELEBRATE link-up community.

Discover. Play. Build.

This week is a practice-run. (This gives you a chance to grab the button and get your feet wet...and me a chance to figure out the whole link-up system) Next Saturday will be the official start of CELEBRATE link-up. I'm looking forward to celebrating together.

Favorite Bits

I enjoyed reading this post, "BYOD" by Mary Lee Hahn about what happened when she invited her students to Bring Your Own Device to school. I love how Mary Lee wholeheartedly is meeting her students where they are.

Holley Gerth is writing on happiness for the 31 Days challenge. This post resonated with me, mostly because it affirms exactly where I am in my thinking about celebrations.

I think Jen's "random" post is a lot of fun to read. I appreciate how she crafts this post to keep me reading through all of the randomness.

This is a happy little thing that makes me one lucky girl.

I love that Katie was able to take the PDF of my writing process image and transform it into a poster on Vistaprint. I love even more that she shared it with me via Twitter. If you click on the image of our tweets, you will be able to see Katie's poster too.

Also, I'm in the process of making my Facebook Page, {Discover. Play. Build.}, a place you can find many of the resources I share. I'm working to make this a rich source for teachers of writers. If you're a FB user, I'd love if you'd like me on FB.

Finally, Andy & I know how to help 12 year old girls live it up during a slumber party:

  1. Ruth, I'm loving this! How fun to live each week thinking of something to celebrate and share. Didn't read any of the links since I'm up early to grade papers. Your last photo made this former Texan long for Bluebell ice cream. We have ordered it shipped on dry ice a few times for special celebrations!

  3. What a great idea - sharing celebrations! I have posted and somehow a Pinterest link is on there and I don't know how to get it off. Feel free to fix that if you can! Or let me know if I can do something.

    1. Hi Leigh Anne --
It looks like it's working now...Elsie also said a Pinterest link showed up initially. I'm not sure why. I'm so glad you are celebrating with us. I always love hearing things in your corner of the world. ;)

  4. What a great idea! Excited to participate in your Saturday Celebration! I'm not that great at Mr. Linky and am not sure why my name has a little x by it, but I did post. Thank you!

  5. Ruth,
What a great idea! I am so glad I found my way to this party -- thanks to the help of some friends. I am celebrating my daughter's senior homecoming today so I doubt a post will make it out into the world. However, happy to be able to read so many uplifting posts. I will be following this event.

  9. Ruth, can you get rid of the link on 15 because that links to a pinterest page. I have no idea how that happened. If you delete, I will try to get the right one in. Here is the real link:

    1. Okay, you don't have to delete me. I guess the link works but that red x goes to pinterest. Very strange! By the way, thanks for thinking of this, it will be fun to read all the moments of celebration from each person.

  16. Thank you for including my celebration in your "favorite bits." Having those devices at the ready has added a new layer of mindfulness to my teaching. It was a scary jump to make, not knowing at all how it would turn out, but (go figure) sometimes the important things are the ones you have to figure out as you go.
