Let me tell you why you are here. You're here to be salt-seasoning that
brings out the God-flavors of this earth. If you lose your saltiness,
how will people taste godliness? You've lost your usefulness and
will end up in the garbage. Matthew 5:13 (MSG) |
I knew I wanted a noun for my One Little Word this year. I knew I wanted a word that would teach me. I was surprised when SALT found me. LIGHT I could have understood. STORY was what I yearned for (but it's already so much a part of the fibers of my being, that it doesn't have the needed merit).
SALT.
Preservative.
Necessary for life.
Noticeable when missing.
Zest.
Ancient.
Pure.
Small.
Easy to get.
Find it everywhere.
We'll see what it has for me in 2012.
Salt. I think that's a perfect word for you, although I would argue that you already are salt in a million different ways, to people you touch through your blog, and I am sure to your family and at school. Anxious to see how the word plays out in your life this year. May you know love, peace, grace, and joy in amazing ways!

ReplyDeleteGo forth and be salty this year :).
Great word. I think I am hearing of more words that can create a space for creative thinking this year. I look forward to heaering how this word weaves into your life.
ReplyDeleteWow, what a fabulous word for 2012!! I love how you chose a noun. I like the Bible verse you got it from as well. I just picked my one little word: joy!
ReplyDeleteDeep, meaningful, inspiring...thanks!
ReplyDeleteI love that you linked your word to a verse. It sounds like it has many possibilities for the year!
ReplyDeleteWhen I saw the image on TWT my first response was: "Salt?" Then I clicked over and read why. Makes sense now. Good luck with it.
ReplyDeletePlanning to reveal my word tomorrow + some ideas for visual reminders of one's OLW for 2012. And then, I think I'm done writing about OLW for awhile. (I'm sure you saw last weeks postS.)
There is so much that can deepen our lives, and exploring a word like 'salt' is part of that. I'm interested in the paths you take, Ruth. I read the book Salt a few years ago and found it fascinating.
ReplyDeleteSalt. Interesting OLW choice. I like it in so many ways and don't know that I could be so daring to select such a word. I have to agree with Carol though. Only knowing you via cyberspace, you already ooze your saltiness in so many ways. I look forward to hearing about how you embrace your OLW.
ReplyDeleteSALT--a challenging word. You have chosen some poignant words to begin your year with Salt. I can tell it will be an interesting year already. You already have added the zest!!!
ReplyDeleteIt is always a surprise to see what you come up with. Your (one little) word has so much depth and flavor- much like you. It is no mistake this word found you! I am looking forward to knowing you better through this word as the year unfolds.
ReplyDeleteAh ha...you settled on an essential ingredient! Love this, and can't wait to see how it makes its presence felt in your life.
ReplyDeleteWhat a strong word for 2012 with such meaning for daily life. Can't wait to read any future posts on how it is playing out for you this year.
ReplyDeleteI chose abide. I desire to abide with people in my life and in my walk with the Lord.
I enjoyed reading your reflection on last year's word and I think your new word is really powerful as well! (I must admit, I was intrigued and confused at first when you said it was "salt" but now it makes perfect sense!) I've always loved that verse, along with the "light of the world" one. Good luck spreading your unique flavoring around the world this year!
